THE TERRITORIALS.

ANNUAL TRAINING.

By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Monday,

To correct any impression which may] exist that a whole year's training will! be expected of the Territorial forces during the remainder of the coming year,! ending May 3:1, General Godley ex-j plained to-day that only a proportion of I the year's drills and exercises will be ( expected up to that date. ' The artillery camps begin in February, and many of the infantry regiments will camp before the end of March. The mounted rifles will camp in April and May. General Godley xemarked that more cadet officers were wanted, and the officers commanding districts would be glad to hear of any suitable lex-officers or qualified persons willing to become senior cadet officers. He regarded t.he registration, of both Territorials and senior cadets as eminently satisfactory. REGISTRATIONS TO DATE. SATISFACTORY REPORT BY THE COMMANDANT. The National Peace Conference has circulated statements at Home to the effect that the new defence scheme inaugurated in the Dominion had broken down, and that many had refused to register. The Commandant, General Godley, has famished the Prime Minister, Sir Joseph Ward, with a report on the matter, as follows:

In December, 1909, a return showing j numbers of youths of each year of age j was supplied by-the Government Statistician, based by estimation on'the result 'jof the previous census taken in 1906 On these figures the defence scheme of 1910 was based—as to registration—to establish and maintain the defence force of the Domiinon, as follows: Senior Cadets. Territorial Force. Ages Nos. Ages. Nos. 14 to 10.... 9,674 18 to 19.... 10,096 I ° ■•■■ 9.211 19 to 20.... 10,408 ,16 to 17.... 9,628 20 to 21.... 10 (Moll* to 18.... 9,628
