RAILWAYMEN'S WAGES.
RAISED" BY CABINET. „ By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Monday. * ■ At a meeting of the Cabinet on Saturday, the Government decided to pay members of the second division of the railway service a minimum wage of 9s per day. This affects, in the traffic branch, 950 porters, 12 watchmen, and 44 crossing-keepers; in the loco.braneh, 350 laborers; in the maintenance branch, 1900 surfacemen and laborers. In addition a further sum of £15,000 was authorised to men in receipt of 9s and, over, whose duties are-of a mora important nature and who are at present only in receipt of a slight advanea on the pay of men at 8s and 8s Cd, ' The rates of wages to,workmen'" on railway construction works and engaged. ' in the. Public Works Department Eavl? also' been increased to 9s per day.
