A London cablegram says that Mr* John Pope, principal bf Messrs. Farmers, drapers, and a leading merchant and philanthropist, is dead.
Mr. W. H. Moyes, the recently appointed Principal of the New Plymouth High School, arrived here from Auckland by the Rarawa yesterday morning. Bishop Clune, of Perth (Western Australia), at one time connected with the Redemptorist Order in Wellington, has returned to his diocese from a voyage to Ceylon, which he took for the benefit of his health, and has benefited greatly by the trip.
Mr. P. Munro, Assistant Stock Inspector at Wellington, has been transferred to Eltham in a similar capacity. His colleagues of the stock inspection staff in Wellington met last week to present him with a gold sovereign case, suitably inscribed.
The Irish Home Rule envoys—Messrs. Redmond, M.P., Hazelton, M.P., and Donovan are spending a holiday at Orange (New South Wales). After their rest they intend visiting Victoria and completing their work in that State. They will then return to New South Wales and commence their cainpaign there about March 17.
Speaking to a New Zealand Times representative on Saturday, Mr. John McCormack said "I think New Zealand should do something to help Miss Buckman to get Home. Sydney no doubt will do something, though she is a New Zealander. She has a career before her. It would not require very much money. In a little time New Zealand would have cause to be proud of her."
