THE TERRITORIALS.

PRIME MINISTER 0N OBJECTIONS.

By Telegraph —Press Association. Wellington, Saturday. Sir J. G. Ward to-day made a statement to a Post reporter respecting the registration which, has been expected under the defence scheme. He refuted the allegation, emanating from the Peace Conference at London, that the scheme had been a failure, inasmuch as large numbers had refused to register. S'ir Josepjh Ward presented for publication a report by General Godley, Which figures regarding those liable according to the census to serve and the actual registration effected under the defence scheme. This shows that more men of the ages 18 to 21 registered than are shown by the census return as liable to registration. In brief, the Defence Department is 'only aware that 53 persons have refused to register.
