THE EQUITABLE FIRE.
SEVERAL FATALITIES. REMARKABLE RESCUES. By Cable —Press Association—Copyright, New York, January 10. In the Equitable Assurance building fire six lives were lost. Three employees who were on the roof were cut off and perished. One leaped to the pavement below, being killed. President Giblin, who took refuge in the vault, wa3 rescued after the steel bars had been sawn through. He was overcome by the smoke, and was removed to the hospital. Fire-chief Walsh is dead.
Another employee who sought refuge in the vault with Mr. Giblin was ateo rescued.
A third was seen from the street, buried in debris, and the fire brigade chaplain gave him the last rites before the smoke hid him. His body has not yet been recovered. The fate .of several millions of dollars' worth of securities has not yet been ascertained.
The fire broken out in the kitchen in the basement. The intense cold caused ice to form and bury the structure, making an extraordinary spectacle of the ruins cased in ice.

Five million dollars' worth of Stock have been recovered from the vaults of the Equitable Life. Other valuable documents are still missing.
