JEWEL THIEVES' HAUL.
SERIES OF MYSTERIOUS ROBBERIES London, November 22. Another mysterious theft of jewellery —the sixth reported within the last few days—was, carried out early yesterday morning, when articles valued, at over £ISOO were stolen from the shop, of Mr. E. J. Needcs, pawnbroker and jeweller, in ; Euston road. * j Other recent victims of the jewel thief | and their losses are:— , Viscountess Massereene, a £2OOO diamond tiara. | Harrod's Stores, a £2OOO emerald pendant. ' Miss Lilian Braithwaite, jewels worth £IOOB. Mr. E. L. Lawrence, jeweller, South Molton street, £IOOO. ! Lady Doyly, £7OO. ' I Lady Doyly's case is the only one in which an arrest has been made. The burglars who visited Mr. Needes' shop yesterday made their- way injby. climbing on the low roof of the pledge department, and then forcing a skylight. Their spoil consisted of 240 wedding rings, 100' diamond rings, over fifty gold bracelets, some jewelled, a number of watches, about fifty old English gold coins, some foreign coins, banknotes, and valuable antiquities. A dress-suit case found in the shop was used to take the articles aw#y. Two boys sleeping' in an adjoining room, shut off N only tyy a glass partition, were not disturbed' by the thievesi, who left by the way they had come. William Lee, who was described as one of'the most daring jewel-shop thieves in London, was found guilty at the Old Bailey yesterday of stealing £3200 worth of jewellery, including, 1846 rings and BTO pairs of ear-rings, from a traveller's brougham at Wood Green on September 5. ' He was also convicted as an habitual criminal, and was sentenced to. three - years' penal servitude, to be followed by five years' police supervision. | Chris Hagan, who was indicted with ] Lee, was acquitted.
