BIG GAS EXPLOSION.
HOLDER BURSTS AND WRECKS DWELLINGS. By Association—Copyright Received 9, 11.15 p.m. London, January 9. Ilkestone was shaken like an earthquare. The gasometer was flung thirty yards, and the flames soared hundreds of fleet in the air, / The occupants of the demolished cottages had miraculous escapes. Several buildings were burne, and the debris on the railway caused the suspension of traffic. It is believed the gasometer yielded to the pressure of water, causing the gas to escape and ignite. The explosion burst the water holder, and a torrent flooded the houses and factories.
