OBITUARY.
Another of the pioneer settlers has passed away in the person of Mr. Henry Hooker, whose death occurred on Saturday at the agei of 78 years. Mir. Hooker came out with his father and mother in the barque Timandra, which arrived on February 24, 1842, so that he had been a aiesident here for very nearly seventy years. In his youth he was put to the stonemasonry trade and continued in it until failing health led to his retirement some years ago. Among the many contracts he carried out in the town and district was the erection of the. stone bridge over the Huatoki in Devon street. He took his share of military duty during the Maori wars and subsequently interested himself closely in local government affairs. For many years he was sexton of St. Mary's Church and took a deep interest in all parish matters. For «„m months past he had been in delicate health, and for some week® had 'been confined to his bed. The interment takes place to-day at Te Henui cemetery.
