FATAL LEAP FROM A WINDOW. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Thomas Peddie, aged 28 years, sheepfarmer of Colyton, near Feilding, met life death on Saturday night by jumping j from the window of an upstairs room at | a Imarding-house in Moksworth street,' kept by Miss Curtis. Deceased arrived in town with his mother and sister on Saturday evening, December 30th, and as he appeared strange in hia manner an attendant was engaged to look after him and sent to the railway station for luggage. In the meantime deceased eluded his/ mother and sister, ran up the stairs, and raising the window, leapt out. Death was instantaneous. Deceased's father, who died three years ago, was for many years a hotelkeeper at Napier. "DIDN'T KNOW IT WAS LOADED." Thames, Last Night. A serious shooting accident occurred on the steamea: Wakatere. One of the saloon boys, Robert Rowlands, of Auckland, ashed another lad, Arthur Walding, for a clothes brush. Walding opened one of the drawers in the mate's cabin to get a brush and found a revolver. He began fooling with it, and, not knowing it was loaded, pointed it at Rowlands head, and pulled the trigger. Rowlands is in the hospital in a critical condition, and Walding is nearly distracted with grief.
