ATHLETICS
AUCKLAND CARNIVAL. By Cable—Press Association—OopyrigH Auckland, Last Night. At the Athletic Carnival yesterday G. Hall attempted to lower A. Shrubb's Australasian mile record of 4min. 22sec. Hall, who was not at his best, only managed to cover the distance in 4min. 25 1-osec. The 76yds. Invitation was a contest between Opio (Australasian champion) and Redmond (N.S.W. champion). Redmond won by two yards in 6 3-ssec. Tormor, who beat Hill in the mile and annexed the 880 yds and 440 yds. handicaps, is a very promising runner from Opotiki. It is pity that in New Zealand we have no seven or ten-mile walking races (says a writer in the Dominion). Kerr's showing in the ten-mile event at the last Olympic Games is enough to warrant the prophesy that, at anything from seven , to twelve miles he has the makings of a world's champion. i
