The majority are riding as strongly as eve?. Some terrific sprinting has .been indulged in and many desperate attempts made to win the prize for gaining a •:ip, but without avail. TRYING CONDITIONS. Received 5, 9.10 p.m. Sydney, January 5. • The cyclists encountered the worst possible weather conditions. In the morning tlie temperature reached 154, accompanied iby a strong and hot wind. Early in the afternoon a thunderstorm broke, and rain deluged the track. The rid'ers donned weird protecting garment!, from oilskins to blanket*.' Some carried open umbrellas. Rain continued all the afternoon. The riding was very glow, many of the competitors being musclebound, necessitating continual massaging. Seventeen hundred jand ten miles were covered at five o'clock. A MOTOR CYCLIST RECORD.' Received 5, 10.25 p.m. Sydney, January 5. xee, the motor cyclist, went from Melbourne to Sydney in 31hrs 19mins, which is 2hrs 44min 5 better than Tormey's recent record.
