DEATH FROM A FALL. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. At the inquest on Mrs. Mary MacDonald, who died yesterday as a result of injuries received on Boxing Day from falling off the Halswell coach, a passenger by the same coach stated that in his opinion the steps were dangerous, as the ibottom step was set at an angle and the edge of it was broken. An old person, or one not accustomed to it, would be liable to fall. The Coroner stated he hod received a letter alleging that deceased's family had beaten her. This was indignantly denied by members of deceased's family. A verdict of death from injuries received in »• fall from a coach was returned. SUDDEN DEATH. Pahiatua, Tuesday. A man named George L. Mancer. aged 60, died at his residence from heart disease, while his wife was calling medical aid. No inquest is necessary.' DEATHS AT CHRISTCHURCH. Christchurch, Tuesday. Mrs. Mary McDonald,; aged 75, who was injured in a drag accident a week ago, died in hospital. William Albert James, eight years of age, ran a rusty nail into his foot some days ago. Tetanus set in, and the boy died yesterday. DEATH AT SEA. Auckland, Last Night. While on the voyage from Auckland to Fiji, a trimmer named' Charles Moore aboard l the .Talune, became ill and died on December 24. He was buried the same evening. MYSTERIOUS DROWNING AFFAIR. Auckland, Last Night. The mystery attaching to the death by drowning of an elderly man named James Kerr,' whoso body was found floating near the Queen street wharf on Saturday, was investigated, but not solved: at the inquest held this morning. The cause of death was presumably drowning, and a verdict to that effect was found, the jury adding, that there was nothing to show how the body got into the water. CRUSHED BY A BALE OF WOOL. Timaru, Last Night. Alfred Finch, employed in a wool store, was pushing a truck laden with wool on a shed line when a bale caught the top of the doorway and fell on him. He died a couple of hours later. Deceased was an old resident and had been a borough councillor.
