BOROUGH INSPECTOR'S WORK
FOR THE PAST YEAR. Pound fees to the value of £23 3a 3d were collected last year in the borough from 64 persons, in amounts ranging from Is to £4 17s, against £2O 8s ion the previous year from 80 persons. Dog tax reoJised £Bl' 12s Cd from 322 onj. raals, viz., seven at 2s fid, 310 at ss, and five at 10s. The latter was double fee for not registering before March 31st. The previous year'si record was 272 dogs, which realised £73 2s (id, but no lessthan 25 were registered late and had to pay double fee. Drivers' licenses to the number of 106 increased the revenue to the extent of £26 10s, as -against £23 'ss from 93 drivers, last year. ' Eighty--two carriage licenses produced £73 10s, viz., 65 at £l, and 17 at 10s. Last year's total was 52, realising £46 10s. Other items were: Thir.ty-four dangerous explosives licenses, £24 10s; six billiard rooms, £3O; ten boardinghouses, £10; five hoardings, £5; eight buildings used for public performances, £l4 (not including; the new Empire Theatre); tw« second-hand dealers, 10s. In all Mr. Tippins had 42 cases before the court for breaches of borough bylaws; two were dismissed, and the other 40 realised £ll 2s fid in lines (exclusive of costs), against £lO 7s Od last year. Nine summons were withdrawn in connection with the sewerage connections, whilst much time was also occupied in , serving notices in this connetion. As a. result of the borough inspetor's work tho borough exchequer has received £2fl9 18s 3d, as against £174 4s U for the previous year.
