TARANAKI v. WANG AND [. THE VISITORS WIN. With six wickets down for 23, Perhatn and Hasell continued the innings for Taranaki yesterday morning at 11.30. facing the trundling of Holland and Baker. Hasell opened with a single, and Pcrham cut a ball which was rather cleverly fielded by Murchie. The partnership did not last long, as Hasell was caught by Lnxford off Hollands' howling. This left seven wickets down for 24. Arden joined Pcrham and scored a single off his first ball. Perham was the -next to go, Holland getting his stump with a ball across the wickets. Matthews followed, and made matters interesting for a time. He scored eight in two hits, and there were hopes that a stand would be made, but the last hall of the over knocked his stump out. ■Nine wickets for 35, and one wicket to fall, it certainly looked as if the visitors' total of 170 would not be reached. Blundell was the last man to go in, and started witli four. Then Arden got a three, and by smart running got a few byes. The board showed 50, and some began to speculate on that being doubled, as the two batsmen seemed to settle down. Murchie was put on to bowl, and twelve extras were scored in two overs. Lnxford was next put on, off whom Blundell got a hit for four, bringing the total to 80. He next hit a ball to the boundary, and Allen missed a catch, the light interfering with him. Considerable applause came from the few enthusiasts who were watching /he play, the two last men making a good stand. It was then hoped that an innings defeat would be avoided. Runs continued to come, and a cheer went up as 00 was reached, thus averting an innings defeat. Soon 100 was signalled, the players being careful and keen. Baker, however, Arde»'s stump when he had scored 21*vith the total at 110. Blundell, the la3t man in, carried his bat out for 41, and received an ovation for his splendid performance. The partnership was responsible for 75 runs. Wanganui <naa then to go In and score' 10 to win the match, which they did without losing a wicket.
