In a special general order published to-day General tlodley refers in terms of i high appreciation to the work of the . officers of the New Zealand Staff Corps • and the warrant officers and non-com-missioned officers of the permanent staff during the past year. He also places on record his appreciation of the way in which the Territorial officers have helped the permanent officers and staff. THE CATHOLIC VOTE. Dunedin, Saturday. Interviewed this morning in regard to the alleged exercise locally of the Catholic vote on behalf of Ministerial candidates, Father Coffey gave it an absolutely unqualified denial. In respect to the allegation concerning the election of Mr. Millar, he said not a single elector belonging to his Church had been seen on behalf of the Minister by a priest or official of the Church. He pointed out that when he referred in the church to the general election he strongly advised all electors to vote for the men who' they believed would beet represent the country. Not a single candidate's name was mentioned in any of 'their Churches. NAPIER WHARF TROUBLES. Napier, Saturday. There is little fresh to report regarding the wharf troubles. A conference of employers was held to-day,, but nothing was done beyond deciding to communicate with other centres. Both sides are firm, and further developments are likely. A TRAIN ACCIDENT. Ohristchurch, Monday. An unusual class of accident occurred at Lyttelton just before two o'clock this afternoon. A number of empty carriages, which had been brought down by the 1.25 p.m. train, were detached to be shunted on to another line. The engine "kicked" the carriages clear, but owing to the. points not being cleared they ran back on the same line and collided heavily with a train that was standing at the station platform. The passengers on the train received a shock, and a little girl, who was in the act of stepping on to the train was thrown to the platform. Fortunately nobody was injured, but the hand rails and buffers of tfiie train were twisted and broken.
