THE HOLIDAY TRAFFIC
AT CHRISTCHURCH. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Sunday. The steamers from the North this morning brought between 1200 and 1300 visitors to Christchurch, and the Maori, sailing to-night, takes a large number of Canterbury people north. A very large number of West Coasters arrived in town tins week, about 200 arriving last night, when the train from Cass was nearly two hours behind time, owing to coaches being delayed by the large number requiring accommodation. Sir Arthur Guinness, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Lady Guinness were passengers, and in an interview Sir Arthur stated that yesterday the coaches were delayed fully tws hours and a-lialf in arranging the seating of passengers and getting extra coaches. He pointed out that last session he urged the Minister of Railways to establish a daily service, and the Hon. Miller promised to give sitcli a service a trial during midsummer. Sir Arthur was of opinion that this week's experience went to prove the absolute necessity lor a daily service during holiday season.
