87 MEN CUT OFF. By Cable—Press Association—"Copyright. London, December 24. By a water-burst occuring at a pitshaft at Wigan eighty-seven miners were cut off. Twenty citing to the steampipes, but the rest were helplessly washed past the cage. Some of these climbed to the pumping pipes and later were hauled to the surface. Many remarkable escapes are recorded. One man who had been wading breast high was rescued after twelve hours. One old man died.
