POST AND TELEGRAPH DEPARTMENT. POSTAL BRANCH. Mondays, the 25th December and Ist January (Christmas and New Year's Day) are to be observed as close holidays. On Tuesday, the 26th December (iloxing Day) the Post Office will open in all branches, except the Money Order and Savings Bank, from 9 to 10 a.m.
TELEGRAPH OFFICE. - The Telegraph Office will open on Monday, 25th inst. (Christmas Day) from 0.30 to 10 a.m. and from 5 to 5.30 p.m. On Tuesday (Boxing Day) and Monday (New Year's Day) the hours will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to midnight.
TELEPHONE EXCHANGE.-The Telephone Exchange will remain open continuously. PRIVATE BOX LOBBY. Sunday hours will be observed on December 25 and January lj usual hours on December 26.
•MAILS. —The usual despatch of all mails will be made up to S a.m. on each of the holidays, and receivers and posting boxes will be cleared accordingly.
TRAVELLING POST OFFICE will run as usual-. COUNTER DELIVERIES of town letters (ordinary and registered) will be made on Saturday evenings, 23rd and 30th inst., from 8 to 9 p.m.
CARRIERS DELIVERIES. Owe full delivery by letter-carriers will be made on 2Gth inst., commencing at 7.30 a.m.
SPECIAL FORM OF TELEGRAPH MESSAGE.
Owing to the very heavy traffic inevitable on Saturday, the 24th inst., the public are requested to lodge as many "Christmas greetings" telegrams as possible on Friday. The public are also notified that all telegraph offices' close at 8 p.m. on Saturday next. in order to afford facilities for the transmission by telegraph of Christmas and New Year greetings, special printed forms containing the message, "Wishing you a merry Christmas and a happy New Year," may be obtained at the Telegraph Office for use. on and between the 19th and 23rd, and the '2oth and 30th December.
A uniform charge of Sixpence for each such telegram will be made, provided the Address and Signature do not contain more than eleven words. If, however, the text as printed is varied in any way, or other words added thereto, the telegram will be treated as an ordinary one and charged for accordingly. A. P. DRYDEN, Chief Postmaster.
