DISTRICT NEWS.

WAREA. (From Our Own Correspondent.) A meeting of the Cape Egmont Horticultural Society was held in the hall on Saturday night. A fair nupiber was present, Mr. J. Burgess being in the chair. The motion re holding the show in February was rescinded, and the show will now bo held on March 0. Arrangements were made re special prizes. The committee are working hard to make the Puniho concert and dance, which will be held on Boxing Night, a success. The floor will be a splendid one for dancing on. Mr. T. R. Julian, our late storekeeper, and also Mr. J. J. Elwin, are on a visit to the district.

The undenominational Sunday School concert, held in the hall 011 Friday night, was fairly well attended. The children all went through their items very well, considering they have had very little practice. The Sunday School was first started by Kev. Braddock, the Presbyterian missionary who was stationed here, but since lie has left it has been carried 011 chiefly by Mr. and Mrs. Parker, and is decidedly undenominational, a largo number attending every Sunday. The first item 011 the programme was an overture by Mist F. Corbett; dialogue, "Welcome," school children; song, "Let Heaven with music ring," children; recitation, "The Way to Paradise," Miss Winnie Larking; solo, "Jesus bids us shine," Miss Thelma Clothier; duet, "Pulaski's Banner," Mrs. Parker and Mr. Wells; song, "On, on and all," children; pianoforte solo, Miss F. Corbett; solo, "The Soul's Awakening," Mrs. Parker; quartette, "Heart Flowers," four little girls; soug, "The festive day so bright," children; solo, "Just plain folks," Miss D. Julian; company song, "I will trust thee," children; recitation, "The Last Hymn," Leonard Parker. During the programme the prizes won during the year were presented to the children. Mr. C. Parker (chairman) thanked all who had assisted to make ithe entertainment a success, especially Mrs. Barrett and Miss Andrews, for they both worked very hard. A quartette, "Will there be any stair?'"concluded the entertainment.

The farmers here are very busy trying to get their crops in between the showers, but it is a very trying task this season. The blackbirds are now in their glory, for the early fruit is beginning to ripen, and what with the wet weather and the birds the poor farmer is getting very little. A meeting of the Warea Domain Board was held in the hall on Wednesday night, seven members being present. Mr. T. Julian was in the chair. Business in connection with the domain and the proposed tennis courts was transacted.
