<8» MONTHLY MEETING. Tke ordinary monthly meeting of the Owineil was held at Opunake on Friday, December 15. Present: Crs. Dudley (chairman), Campbell, Hurst. Farquhar; Burgess, Harvey, Davcy, and Willcox. The chairman welcomed Cr. Burgess back to the Council, andttv he Had previously been a member, hoped the same good relations would continue. Cr. Burgess returned thanks, and remarked that if the meetings were eonducted equally as well as when he previously attended he would not re<*ret coming back. ° Cr. Maxwell wrote asking for leave of absence as the Council meeting this month fell on the same date as the Hospital Board meeting; hence his absence.— Leave granted. NATIVE RATES. The Public Trust Office forwarded cheque for £9 8s for demand on rates made by the Council. The amount demanded was about £IOO, and the Department tabulated "no funds' for the balance. The members thought the position unsatisfactory, and the usual annual discussion on the difficulty of obtaining native raites ensued^ The chairman said he would be in Wellington on or about the Bth proximo, and the Council authorised him to deputationise the Public Trustee on the matter. HEAVY TRAFFIC. In reply to the Council, the Taranaki County Council wrote: "That the West Coast Transport Company entdr into an agreement with this Council whereby they agree to pay all costs of present and future damage done to the Main South road by their vehicles, such damage to he assessed by Mr. L. S. Sladden, engineer, whose decision shall be final and binding between both parties." The foreman, in his rcpoisfc, pointed out to the Council the amount of damage that is being done to this portion of the Main South road and to the bridges under his control by the continual working of these steam haulers. Since they have been running he had used 896 ft. of bridge timber for repairing the various bridges damaged by their weight. The Council decided to forward a copy of the foreman's report to Mr. H. Bailey and ask if the Transport Company were' prepared to enter into similar agree- " ment with this Council as between the Taranaki Council and the Transport Company. r Cr. Burgess said the steam haulers ware not now carrying the same heavy loads, previously they carried five tone; at present the average is two tons. TENDERS. Thei following tenders were dealt with:— Dog Collars.—Samples from Mr T J Mildenhall: No. 1, 7d; No. o 6V„d No' 3, 6d. / " Sample from' Mr. C. F. McGregor price fid. ° ' Mr. McGregor's tender was accepted. DOG REGISTRAR. Two tenders were received as followsMr. Conroy, for norther division of county; price, sporting dogs, Is; others, Od. Mr. Shaw tendered for the whole county; price, sporting dogs, Is 3dothers 6d. ' Cn. Hurst moved, and Cr. Campbell-, seconded, that Mr. Shaw's tender be accepted. Cr. Willcox moved, and Cr. Harvey seconded, that Mr. Conroy's tender be accepted for the northern division. Mr. Conroy's tender was accepted for the northern division, and Mr. Shaw's for the southern <li vision. AUROA ROAD. The Eltham County Council wroteReferring to yours of the 24th ult., this Council at last meeting agreedi to contribute £SO towards metalling this road, south of Eltham road, on terms suggested by the Egmont Council. " Mr. Robert Gibson wrote stating that the amount of guarantee promised by the settlers would be paid. The work to be gone on with as soon as the money promised bv the ■settlers was pjud into the Council.' In the meantime the forenfan to prepare specifications for the work. CONTRACTS. The following contracts were dealt with:— Contract No. 190, 300 vards crushed boulder stone, Eltham Road.—G. Vickery . ss. (accepted); J. Hickcy, as 3d- G Kehely, 5s 6d.
