Several changes have been made in the New Zealand team for the athletic championship meeting. The Victorian athlete Davis did not arrive, yesterday with the other Australians. liAHOTU AXEMEN'S CARNIVAL. The following handicaps have been declared by Mr. A. Hansen (Eltham), bandicappcr for the Axemen's Carnival on New Year's Day. It will be seen that the liberal prize money offered by the club has drawn all the leading axemen and sawyers of the Dominion, so that residents of the Coast, whom the exigencies of the milking season prohibit from visiting the big carnival at Eltham, will have the opportunity of witnessing the champions perform on their own ground. In the big events the scratch men are O'Rorke, champion of the South Island, and Dave Pretty, the New Zealand champion, and their meeting alone should be worth seeing. Sam Johnson and other well-known choppers arc also competing. The cycling events have also drawn fair entries. The handicaps are as follows: Novice Chop, 12-inch—J. F. Mortinson, S. IT. Jones, W.
