OUTBREAK AT LEVIN. By Telegraph—Press Association. Levin, Monday. : A fire at Levin on Saturday de- , stroyed the premises and stock of Hitehings, Hankins and Co., Ltd., wool, grain, and hardware merchants, and the adjoiningl building, owned by the Levin Implement Co., was gutted. The insurances on Hitchingß and Hanlkins and 00. "were £I7OO on the building in the Ocean Office. The Implement Co.'s building was insured for £SOO in the Ocean Office. The Masonic Lodge room was destroyed also the insurances being £IOO in the 1 Liverpool, Ijondon, and Globe Office. AN OLD "LANDMARK DESTROYED. Blenheim, Monday. An old landmark was last night removed when the Riverlands factory was destroyed by fire. It was used as a rabbit-canning factory by the Hon, W. Clifford' about thirty years ago, and is at present owned by Mrs. Gridley. It was insured for £2OO in the Liverpool, London, and Globo office. HOUSE BURNED AT PATEA. The pilot's residence, owned by the • Harbor Board and occupied by Captain Tinney, was 'burned to the ground between 9 and 10 o'clock on Sunday morning. The fire originated in the diningroom, where a tire was burning in an open grate. It is thought that a spark from the fire must have set fire to some ' inflammable article, for the room had not been vacant ma'ny minutes before it was discovered by Mrs. Tinnev enveloped in flames. The Ca/ptain and! his boys, who were at the sheds near by, made a strenuous attempt to subdue the blaze 1 by .mean's of buckets, but it had too firm ' 5 a hold to make this 1 possible. The strong-' winid which was blowing made the' flames spread rapidly, amd within half! an hour of the outbreak the place was in rains. Few of the household effects were saved. Almost all the furnittre was lost, including a 100-guinea piano. The furniture was insured for £2OO, but Captain Tinniey will stall be a heavy losesr.
