A BLACKMAIL CASE.
SCENES IN THE COURT. A COUNTESS CROSS-EXAMINED. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 17, 5.5 p.m. London. December 16. In the Oomtesse Domain blackmail case at Bow street evidence was given that Glendening and Page demanded £IOOO, which was eventually reduced to £4OO. Cross-examining the Comtesse, counsel asked if O'Connor was a very impecunious man. The Comtesse replied he had £3500 a year when she first knew him. He might have part of that now. The magistrate later intervened and said the whole cross-examination was directed to throwing mud. Counsel angrily dissented, and a scene ensued. The magistrate ordered an adjournment.
