PARIHAKA ROAD BOARD
♦ MONTHLY MEETING, j The monthly meeting of the Parihaka Road Board was heJd at Rahotu on December 14. Present: Messrs. J. Young (chairman), Potter, Harvey, Duoker, Willcox and Leahy. The foreman applied for 120 yards of boulders to Be carted from the beach and placed in heaps where required on the Lower Arawhata road.—The board voted £2O towards the work. Messrs. Molfit and Goodwin asked for 31 chains of formation' and metalling on the Pungarehu road, and offered the use of a team for the work.—After discussion it was decided that the finances would not stand the whole work, but that £SO worth of work be done. The native rate t collection was discussed 1 , and it was ultimately decided to interview the Reserves Agent and obtain information and. assistance in connection with the matter. Notice is to .be given to contractor No. 81 that if the work is not commenced within four days from date the deposit will be forfeited, and the work re-let.
The clerk was authorised to proceed with the proposal for a joint loan of £IBOO as between tlte board and the Were>kino Road Board to finish the metalling of the Puniho road, the Werekino Road Board to have control of the work subject to the inspection of Parihaika Road Board's {foreman.
Mr. Claris again wrote drawing the board's attention to the impassable state of Waiteika road near ltham The foreman estimated it would take £6O to make a cart track through the bad place.—Tenders will be called to be returned at next meeting of the board. Legal opinions were read from Messrs. Malone, Anderson, and Johnstone and Mr. Roy regarding the question of Mr. Willeox'a legality as a member of the board.—Mr. Willcox spoke confidently of his legal standing, and was of opinion that he could get his name on the ratepayers!' roll by writing to Wellington On the motion of Messrs. Leahy and Harvey, it was resolved that Mr. Willcox be given on month to have Ills name reinstated on the road, and that if this is not done immediate steps be taken by the board to test the legality of Mr. WiHcox's position as a member of the board. The foreman was instructed to report on draining and metalling work asked for by the Stent road settlers.
