DESERTING SAILORS. By Telegraph—Press Associatjnr:: Wellington, Friday. The Remuera sailed for London today. She was delayed 24 hours through some of the crew deserting. The deserters had to be replaced by men who will be paid £4O for the trip" Home, the usual amount being £7 10s. A RAROTONGAN CASE. , Auckland, Friday. News from Rarotonga report that a native woman named Rongomate was shot dead on December 3. Her husband, Noongo, was arrested on suspicion, and at the inquiry' conducted' by the medical officer, the jury found that death was caused by a gunshot wound received in the house, none being present except deceased and her husband. There was no direct evidence as to whether the gun was discharged accidentally or intentionally. UNCUSTOMED GOODS. Auckland, Friday. In the Police Court, William' 11. Walker, third officer of the Morayshire, was charged with having cigars, tobacco, and a pair of ladies' boots, uncustomed goods, in his possession, and fined £27, three times the value of the goods, the fine being reduced to £3.
