WAITARA WEST ROAD BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING. (From Our Own Correspondent.) At the monthly meeting of the Waitara West Road Board, there were present: Messrs J. Connett (chairman), French, Surrey and Turnbul). Correspondence was read from Mr. J. Clark, requesting permission to put in a wooden culvert, at his entrance; and from Mr, J. Purdie, stating that he had no oojection to surface water, being turned over his property from Waitara road, lower down than the present entrance. The chairman reported that Mr. F. Hoskin had agreed to accept 3d per yard royalty on metal taken from his pit, but wished the Board to see that contractors left the road to the pit in decent order; also that Mr. Montefiore would allow the Board to take meUl from the railway pit for repairs to Lower Te Aral and Brown roads.

Mr. French reported that Haskell and Co. would supply balance of metal required on Upper Te Arai road at 4s 6d per yard, which was accepted. Surfaceman Palmer reported that during the past month he had been engaged in forming the Kairau and York roads, the road-grader having been two days on each. The metal for repairs to Cross road had been procured and metal for repairing Waitara road would be carted out next week.

Surfaceman Giddy reported that 88 chains on Wortley road had been formed with rnad-gradcr at a cost of £8 7s (id, and the grading of Corbett road had been commenced. The cutting on Askworth road had been formed, and a portion of Richmond road at the end of the metal, The metal authorised for repairs to Manutahi West road would not be sufficient, as the metal had cut out badly. The chairman will interview Mr. Atkinson re extra metal required on Manutahi West road, the latter having offered to collect subscriptions from those interested towards cost of same.

Messrs Surrey and Turnbull were authorised to spend money which may be collected for repairs to Cross road on grading the road.

It was resolved to take up the pipes across the Te Arei road by Mr. Herrick's, also to form the hill on Tikorangi road as soon as the contractor had finished carting metal for Cross road. ' The surfaceman was directed to sec that the contractors carting stone for the Waitara Borough Council over the K&raka road held to the terms of their agreement re keeping the road in repair.

The pipe culverts on Kelly road deviation were reported to be blocked, and the surfacemen are to be directed to clear same, and also to fill in over the culverts which were exposed. Complaint having been made with regard to trees overhanging the Cross and Te Arei.roads, the clerk was instructed to request that they be cut back. Accounts were passed for payment and the Board adjourned.
