At the hearing of the Merchant Service Shipping Guild case, the President of the Federal Arbitration Court refused to include companies who were parties to previous agreements still running. This excludes from the present claims the Commonwealth Steamship Owners' Association and six niter-State companies belonging to it, also the Melbourne Steamship Company. THE CITY OF LINCOLN EXPLOSION. Adelaide, December 9. The Marine Board found that the City of Lincoln explosion was caused by the neglected and defective nature of a stop-valve; and that such valves should be specially designed with ail exceptional factor for safety, and that no one connected with the ship in any manner was blameworthy for the mishap. A NEW STEAMSHIP SERVICE. Sydney, December 0. The Howard-Smith Company is issuing £290,000 shares, being the balance of the original £500,000 preference shares in the capital of the company, the object being,the acquiring of steamers and general purposes, including the purchase of the Caledonial colliery.
