POLITICAL.
THE TAUMARUXUi: SKAT. There was an extraordinary display of feeling at Waitara on Thursday night when Mr. Jennings addressed a large assemblage that were waiting to hear election results. Speaking from a motorcar, the candidate said he heartily thanked his friends who had. worked so untiringly on his behalf that day; but he and they had to accept the voice of public opinion. He hoped that Waitara and Taumarurmi electorate would prosper under the new representative, as it certainly had under his (Mr. Jennings') care during the past nine years. At the conclusion of the address cheering took place for a considerable time, and men and women chuuberal on the footboard of the motor-cnr, shaking the candidate's hand. After the singing of ''For he's a jolly good fellow," the motor-car proceeded slowly to the bridge, large crowds following, when Mr. Jennings again addressed a few words, saying the demonstration of kindly feeling shown him made him think his defeat was a victory. The crowd sang "Auld Lang Syne," and cheered heartily, and Mr. Jennings motored to Xew Plymouth.
