The weather was hot and the wicket good for the match against an Australian eleven. There was an attendance of 5000. England opened disastrously, three ■ wickets fallinw for no runs, The de-1 fence of Kinnear and Douglas saved the side. Hearne also was sound. The scoring throughout was painfully slow.
