' , Last Night. ihe first of the wool sales in Napier was held to-day. There was a large and representative gathering, there being .buyers from America, wlw> operated for wool suitable' to their country. Among .the Bradford: men several new faces were to be noticed, and the Continent was represented by four French buyers and one from Germany. The sales opened with a good swing, and bidding continued rfnimated throughout all the catalogue. The result was that viery tew Ws were pissed in, the sales bein* in this respect the most notable thai have been held for some years past. Contiary to expectations,.the prices realised did not show any material drop. Prime rolls were only from %d' to Id lower than last year, while coarse crossbreds showed practically no change. In explanation of this fact it should b<j .borne m mind that the wool offered to-dav was in better condition and better grown than last year's dip, and would probably have fetched higher prices had the state of the market been .equally favorable. I Here was exceptionally good demand for pieces and bellies, and on the whole growers have every reason to be satisfied with the financial results of the season's ShwiTJJTg.
