A statement has gained' currency to, the effect that Joseph Hatch has lost . the lease of Macquaiie Islands and that Dr. Mawson has oTifcaSiued a lease for two j years. Hatch states that this is, in?; correct. YMiat the Tasmanian Gwernment did require was an undertaking that northing would be done to interfere with Dr. Mawson's ■ scientific research. This Hatch readily agreed to, and he also gave a guarantee of similar consideration to the Commonwealth. Government should it be required.
