The Gisborne Harbor Board decided to-day to advertise in New Zealand and Australia for an engineer-secretary, combined. at a salary of £7OO per annum, to have complete control' of harbor affairs, and to reorganise the staff, subject to the. Board's approval. SPORTS PROTECT rOX LEAGUE. Inverea rgill. Last Xiglit. A largely attended preliminary meeting was held to-night to form a local centre of the Sports Protection League. Delegates were present from practically all the Southland sporting bodies. Mr. Paape, organising secretary, outlined the aims and objects of the league, and effectively replied to adverse criticism. A centre was formed, with a strong committee. ROSS GOLD FIELDS. Wellington, Monday. The shareholders in the Ross Goldfields Company, who object to pay a Is call per share, have taken action to restrain the directors proceeding in the matter before the Chief Justice to-day. The action was adjourned till to-morrow to enable Auckland shareholders to say if they will proceed for an interim injunction.
