OBITUARY.

MR. P. E. HARDY. The many friends of Mr. F. E. Hardy, of Eltha,m, will regret to hear of his death, which took place'in the Xew Plymouth Hospital yesterday evening. It will be remembered time about twelve months ago Mr, Hardy was taken seriously ill with a complication of diseases, and for some time his life was despaired of . After several months in the Xew Plymouth Hospital he was able to return to Elthain and take up his duties as Registrar of Electors and DeputyReturning Officer for the, Egmout Electorate. His health, however, became worse, and he was again removed to the Xew Plymouth Hospital. The late Mr. F. K. Hardy, who was a well-known athlete in his early days, went to Eltham from the north of Auckland, and opened up a saddlery and cycle business. Some time later he joiucdMr. T. 0. (Stanners and founded the business of Hardy and Stanners. land agents. He was a. most popular man, not only in Eltham but throughout the. whole of Tarannki, and with all those with whom he came in contact, and they were. many. He was identified with all sport, being the founder of the Axemen's Association, which owes its pre-eminent position to his untiring energy ami business acumen. As an Oddfellow lie took a keen interest in Lodge matters, holding the position of secretary to the Taranaki Friendly Societies' Hospital Association. On the formation of the Egmout electorate, he was appointed Registrar of Electors anil Deputy-Returning Officer. Ho also filled very many other public offices, and his death at the comparatively early age of 38 will be deeply felt by a large circle of friends. He leaves a widow, who was a daughter of Ml, Pote, of 801 l Block, but, no family, and general sympathy will be extended to her in her -bereavement.
