PROCESSION'S BROKEN UP. By Cable—Pre« Association—Copyright. London. November 21. Owing to the enormous crowds the processions of suffragettes were broken up. They were unable to pass the cordon of police guarding Parliament Square. Windows in the Government OlTiees and the National Liberal Club were smashed, and 250 arrests were made, including Lady Constance Lytton and Mrs. Pethick Lawrence. WELL ORGANISED DEMONSTRATION WINDOW SMASHING GALORE. Received 22, 10.10 p.m. London, November 22. The suffragettes seized the bridles of constables' horses. Many chained themselves to railings and lamp j osts, and they were released with difficulty. The arrested include Miss Billinghurst, a cripple, whose hands were lashed to a tricycle.
Whilst the police occupied Parliament Square well-organised groups of suffragettes were engaged in twos and threes window-smashing. First mixing with the crowds on the pavements they suddenly produced stones, hammers and catapults, and smashed scores of windows of Government offices, private houses in Whitehall, Parliament street. Victoria street, the Strand, and also I»rd Huldane's and Mr. John Burns' private residences, the Daily Mail's headquarters, and tho Daily News office. The public had many marvellous escape?.
