THE TARANAKI SHOW.

VERY SATISFACTORY ENTRIES. Entries for the Taranaki metropolitan show closed on Saturday night last, and/ as was expected, the results are highly satisfactory. The total number of entries received by the secretary on Saturday night are 70 per cent, in advance of any other previous show, and the quality of the stock that will be seen at the New Plymouth show on Wednesday' and Thursday next will long remain in the minds of the most careful breeders and stock-loving people. The entries to hand will account for considerably over 1100 live stock exhibits, and with entries still i?o arrive from the society's agents last year's results will undoubtedly be over doubled. The most strikingladvance in entries is in the horse competitions, and the average for the jumping competitions is something like 25, and; in these competitions the champion jumpers of all the previous shows will meet and the public will be able to witness a keen competition for the challenge trophy* which is being offered this year. Another interesting feature of the show will be a great display of some 300 exhibits in the dog pavilion. This department has, been taken in hand by a hard-working committee of dog fanciers, and it is pleasing that the results are so satisfactory. In all the high classed dairy competitions large entries have been received, and it will lie very interesting to watch the results of the judging of all the champions that will meet next Wednes-j day and Thursday. The sheep exhibits' will be double those of last year, and s»me line specimens will be on view. The pig classes as usual have not brought forth the competition one would expect in a district such as New Plymouth, but some line specimens will be brought along from other parts. A fine display of export butter and cheese and pounded and fancy butters will be on view under the : grandstand, and visitors should not miss the chance of inspecting this part of the programme, With the results as above New Plymouth should be in for a great week, and all that is wanted is fine "weather and we will be able to find anyone, and everyone from far and near quietly inspecting the champions of the Dominion.
