ALF. BAYLY SCHOLARSHIP
ATHLETIC COMPETITIONS. The second animal sports in connection with the Bayly Memorial Scholarship were Held on the Recreation Sports Ground on Saturday. There was keen competition among lads of New Plymouth, Stratford, Inglewood and Ngaere for the coveted honor. Some fine performances were put up. Owing to the lads having to catch the afternoon train it was found impossible to get off the long jump, which will be competed for at a later date. Carroll (Stratford) and Crone (New Plymouth) are putting up a keen fight for premier position on the athletic side.
Messrs. McLeod and Skoglund, members of the Rugby Union executive, attended to the varied details connect#d with the gathering. All competitors reaching the standard set were awarded 20 points. Results: Punt, standard 40yds, conditions three kicks: Crone (New Plymouth) 53y<ls, 40 points, 1; Carroll (Stratford), 46yds, 30 points, 2; Bacon (New Plymouth), 45i/ a yds, 25 points, 3. Sixteen entries. ] Drop-kick, three kicks, standard 45yrs: Carroll (Stratford) 44yds, 30 points, 1; Crone (New Plymouth), 42yds, 15 points, 2; Vickers (Stratford), 37'/»yds, spoints, 3. Sixteen entries. Carroll, who kicked well, just failed to reach, the standard. Place kick, one kick at three angles, standard two goals from different angles: Pennington (Stratford), 50 points, 1; Crone (New Plymouth), 35 points, 2; Vickers (Stratford), 25 points, 3.
