FIRES.
A COTTAGE DESTROYED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Gisborne, Thursday. A six-roomed house, owned by Mrs. Nield and occupied by Mrs. Neilson, was destroyed by fire, TWO HOUSES DESTROYED. Dunedin, Last Night. Two houses in Clark street, Mornington, were destroyed at an early hour this morning. The fire originated in the kitchen of Mr. Campbell's four-roomed dwelling, and in a short space of time it had gained complete mastery. It was not long before the adjoining ten-roomed house, owned and occupied by Mrs. Briley, caught fire, and in about half an hour both places were reduced to ashes. The insurance on Mrs. Briley's house was £3OO, and the furniture was covered by £IOO, both policies being held by the State Office. The owner valued her house at £6OO and her furniture at £3OO, so her loss is heavy. Mr. Campbell's uouse was insured for £l5O in the Royal Office, and the furniture was covered in the London and Liverpool and Globe Office by a policy for £IOO. His loss is about £l2O.
