At tht- inquest of Cna Cover, who was shot by Lawless, Mrs. Cover stated that when Lawless arrived he appeared friendly, and had lunch. Liter he complained that witness was not the same old mate she u-ed to be. She replied that she hoped they would always be friends. Lawless declared that lie wanted something more than friendship. Witness said that could never be. The next she knew was the report of a rifle, and she felt a shot hit !her head. She heard another shot. Lawless said: 'Tna is dead. lam going to set fire to the house." While witness was running away Lawless-shot her twice. She escaped- with two children and walked to a neighbor's house, four miles away. Lawless was committed for trial on a charge of murder.
