JERSEY CATTLE SALE.
Particular attention is drawn to the sale of pedigree Jerseys which Mr. Newton King is holding at his Waiwakaiho yards to day, when 29 bulls and 15 cows and heifers (including some of the choicest animals ever offered in Taranaki) will be offered. The cows and heifers are of exceptional quality and breeding, and should realise good prices; while of the bulls entered, one cannot speak too highly. One has only to look through the catalogue at the pedigrees of such animals a« '"Marie's Eminent," "Stevenson," and "Liryclear Lad," and numerous others to realise the splendid class of animals to be offered. Breeders have now gone in for breeding more on butter-fat lines than heretofore, with the result that the. Jersey has now become the greatest dairying cow in the world It has always been admitted that for cream and bntter-fat testing the Jersey could- beat all classes, but what fanners have not yet realised is that the Jersey is also the greatest casein tester. Up to now dairvmui have been inclined to disparage the Jersey as a cheese maker, but this should not be so; for not only did the Jerseys sweep the boards at the recent Hawera show in the butter-fat elases, but it was a Jersey cow thla.t beaded the list by a long margin in the casein testing A greater proof than this of the value of the Jersey strain in the herd could not he given.
