SUPREME COURT.
WELLINGTON SESSIONS. .By Telegraph—Press Association. r Wellington, Saturday. The following prisonci-s were sentenced by the Chief Justice in the Supreme Court this morning:—Walter Henry Maisitem, for breaking and entering and theft, was declared a habitual criminal and sentenced to two years' imprisonment; Herbert Metford, for theft .from a dwelling, was sentenced to 18 months' with two yearsi' reformative treatment; John Keough, for theft from a dwelling, was' similarly sentenced; Henry Edward Whitman and Leonard Edwards, who had admitted charges of arson and breaking and entering and theft, were admited to probation for two years, and were ordered to pay the costs of the prosecution and not to enter a puMic-howse for two years or be seen taking alcoholic liquor. The offence was attributed to' drunkenness, though, acoused stilted that they were not drunkards in the ordinary sense. AUCKLAND SESSIONS. Auckland, Saturday. Tn the Supreme Court, Mr. Justice Edwards sentenced Jesse O'Brien, a young man, for theft from a dwelling, to a year's hard labor and two years' reformative treatment. Herman Langsdorf, for i.-suing valueless cheques, with many previous convictions in New Zealand and Australia, was sentenced to two years' imprisonment and live years' reformative treatment. (". The judge described accused, who is a colored man, as a hopeless case and a curse to the community.
