NEW DWELLING BURNT. ' By Telegraph—Pres9 Association. Thames, Last Night. A seven-roomed dwelling on the newly-settled Hauraki Plains, owned by Thomas Glynn, was destroyed by fire last night. The. owner was at Thames, en route to Wanganui, to bring his wife and family to the new home. The building was insured in the State Office for £350, and the furniture for £7O in the same office. No one was on the premises when the fire broke out. A MAHOE OUTBREAK. At Mahoo on Wednesday evening a five-roomed house belonging to Mr. T. i Perry was burnt to the ground. The house was occuped by Mrs. Sattler. The outbreak occurred about half-past five, while the family were at the milkingsheds. When discovered the house was a mass of flames, and nothing could be saved. Unfortunately Mrs. Sattler had no insurance on the contents, and has lost everything. The house was insured. Usually two small children are put to bed at five o'clock. By good luck, however, they were on that night taken down to the sheds; otherwise there would probably have been a tragedy to record. A defective chimney is supposed to have been the cause. Prompted by the spirit of kindness common to country folk, the residents of the district looked after the family, and promptly made a collection on their behalf. Already a substantial sum, sufficient to tide over their immediate needs is held for them.—Star. If your property is not insured, call at or ring up the United Insurance Company, Ltd., Devon street; telephone 198. Webster Bros., District agents. Insurances effected on the most favorable terms.—AdTt.
