JERSEY CATTLE.
The farmers of Taranaki have conic to recognise that only by having the very best stock can their properties be made to pay by dairying. This has given a great impetus to the breeding and importing of pedigree cattle, and the breed most in favor is the Jersey. One has only to look' up some of the world's records to prove the wisdom of this choice. Princess 1., the famous Australian Jersey cow, gave 441b 2'/;OZ of butter in seven days, far surpassing the great cow Eva, whose record was 4.28 lb of churned butter in twenty-four hours. New Zealand's record for a dairy cow is held by that famous Taranakibred Jersey, Grannie's Girl, who gave 7Wlb of commercial butter in 365 dnvs.
At the sale which Mr. Newton King it holding sit Waiwakaiho yards on Friday, next many of the progeny and relatives of these great vows will be offered, notably amongst these being Stevenson, a son of Grannie, will known in Taranaki, and brother to Grannie's Girl; Liryolear Lad, recently imported from Australia by Mr. W. f. Hall, of Matatoke, Thames Valley (this bull and his relatives have taken move first prizes and championships than any other beast in the Southern Hemisphere) l ; Marie's Eminent, by the great bull Emment's Fontaine, imported from America; and others too numerous to mention. A glance at the pedigrees of these animals, in which beasts with great milking records may be seen, will convinee anyone of their sterling worth.
