PALMERSTON SHOW.
FIRST DAY. • By TeJegraph—Pre6s Association. Palmerston N., Last Night. The Manawatu spring show opened today in fine though windy weather. The attendance, as usual on a first day, was not large. Judging was confined to home industries and pigs. There were not not numerous entries in the latter section, but the quality was remarkably good, particularly in Berkshires and Yorkshires. Championship awards were as follow*: i Berkshire boar, J. 11.. Sellars (Okaiawa); sow, Porirua Mental Hospital. Middle and small Yorkshires.—Boar, P. J. SWIL (Kairanga); sow, W. Saunderson (Palmerston). Large Yorkshire boar, P. J. Small (Kairanga). Large .black Devons, boar and sow, E. Weekes (Awa]suni). Numerous competitions were held during the day. The shoeing competition was won by D. Donoghuc (Wellington); best gentleman rider, Alex. Mitchell (Manaia); bareback rider, D. A. Bennett (Awahuri); driving, H. Roberts (Feilding) ladies' pony turnout, Mrs. Goring Johnston; harness horse, pace or stvle, R. T. Sanson; maiden hunters, Ernest Short. Lord Islington officially opens the show to-morrow.
