CRICKET

TILE ENGLISH TEAM. WARNER INTERVIEWED. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright, Fremantle, November 1. Warner, interviewed, said he. had a splendid team of fighters. He could not say how it compared with his previous team, but it was the best possible, except Fry and Spooner. He would not say that he thought the team would win, but the whole team would do its best. Fry was at thfe top of his form, although he was forty years of age, and batting better than ever, but he was not the equal of Trumper. Warner was reticent about comparing the merits of different members of his team. AH, he said, were good in their departments. There were three lefthanded batsmen. Kinneir, Mead and Woolley were left-handed, and invaluable to the team. Ilitch was the fastest bowler and also a brilliant fielder. Cricket was flourishing in England. They had had a splendid summer. He did not think the triangular scheme was practicable in a shorter period than every ten years. Anyhow it would greatly dislocate county cricket.

It was not true that he had had his pockets picked as cabled. It was a distinct libel on ithe light-fingered gentry. During this tour amateurs and professionals would stop at the same hotels.

THE AUCKLAND COACH. By Telegraph —Press Association. Wellington, Wednesday. G. J. Thompson arrived by the Athenic and goes to Auckland to-morrow as coach for the Cricket Association. He thinks the English team is a good all-round one and that it will pull safely through the tests. It could have been improved, but not to a great extent.
