ALLEGED CARGO BROACHING

WATERSIDE WORKERS CHARGED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Alfred Nelson; Donald McPherson, Anton OUen, John Hindle, William Young, Fred L. Backhouse, James Wright, and Harry Douglas appeared before Mr. W. G. Riddeil, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court yesterday charged with stealing 251b5." of Bavelock tobacco, valued at £7 10s, the property of the Union Steamship Company. In asking for a remand until Wednesday, Chiei Detective Broberg said the offence was alleged to have taken place on board the steamer Moana yesterday while discharging operations were in progress. A box of tobacco was found to have been pillaged, and when detectives searched accused, who were all working in the hold in which the tobacco was stored, seven were found to have tobacco in their possession. A remand was granted, bail being allowed each accused in the sum of £4O and two sureties of £2O.
