THE BACKBLOCKS MISSION
SALE OF WORK. The workers in the good cause of raising funds to assist in the support of missionaries in the backblocks of this diocese deserved better weather yesterday for their sale of work, planned and earnestly worked for in the' hope of acquiring the sinews of war. But the rain was almost continuous throughout the afternoon and evening, and this materially and unfavorably affected the attendance. Still fairly good business was done, those who did attend showing in a very practical manner their good opinion of the excellent work offered for sale. The sale is 'being continued this afternoon, and patrons are recommended to view the work done by the G.F.S. candidates (little children) under the supervision of Mrs. Dahb. The stalls arc all well stocked. They are supervised as follow: Plain work, Mrs. Addenbrooke, Misses Hempton and Wood; fancy-work, Misses McKellar, Marshall and Matthews; Girls' Friendly Society Stall (members and candidates), Mrs. Dahb and Miss Wilson; produce, Misaea Smith, Curtis, Florry and Taylori sweets, Misses Joyce Hempton, Winnie Bradbury and Bayly; handkerchiefs, Misses Winifred Webster and Loris Fitzherbert; afternoon tea, Misses Baker, Kidd, Roy and Godfrey. Gramaphone selections were given on a fine instrument lent by Mrs. Addenbrooke.
Owing to yesterday'/, bad weather the sale of work will he continued this afternoon, opening at 2.30. The afternoon tea rooms will be open, and special attention given to this department.
