THE AVON SEAT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. Mr. W. J. Walker will contest the Avon seat in the Opposition interest. THE PATEA SEAT. There was scarcely standing room in •the Alton schoolhouse on Wednesday night, when Mr. O'Dea addressed the electors. Mr. Gibbs presided. The candidate received a vote of thanks and confidence, together with three hearty cheers. An amendment of thanks only, moved by Mr. Washer, was defeated by I a large majority. A strong committee j is being formed here, with Mr. M. Ryan as secretary to aid the candidate.
