Bankers oppose the Commonwealth Bank Bill on the grounds of possible political control, that there is do demand for a Commonwealth-owned hank, or for such bank to compete with the present State Savings Banks. THE WHEAT CROPS. Sydney, October 24. The Government Statist forecasts that the New South Wales wheat crop will be between 21 and. 22 million bushels, and at leant two to three bushels below last year's average. With timely rainfall the estimate would be considerably enhanced. On the other hand, the continuance of dry weather would increase the ri.-k of a general failure of the crop.
