THE CATTLE CLASSES. A better display of stock is seklom ever seen than that exhibited annually at the .Hawera Show. With the immense district surrounding Hawera the entries in cattle are always large, and to see a show of from 250 to 300 beasts jsf worth while going a long way to see. The classes this year promise to be again well contested. The prize money is good in all classes, and for dairy stock still further encouragement has this year been offered for the better qualities of good dairy cows.

Amongst numerous special prizes, the solid silver challenge cup presented by the New Zealand Shipping Co., Ltd., i's a beautiful one. This cup will go to the exhibitor scoring the greatest number of points in the purebred Holstcin. Jersey and Ayrshire classes, to be won twice in succession before becoming the property of the exhibitor. The classes will be unusually attractive this year and the competition should be intensely keen.

The champion butter-fat competition will be of great interest again this year, and splendid paddock accommodation will be provided for exhibitors. A newclass inaugurated this year will be that of the best cow for cheese-making with casein test combined. A similar competition held in Taranaki resulted in favor of the Jersey, and the result of the Hawera competition will be awaited with interest. Both these competitions will be under the supervision of the Dairy Commissioner's stall'. A milk-testina- competition open to farmers' sons and daughters public and high school students" is of educational value and good entries are again anticipated.
