LORD DUDLEY'S STATEMENT. RESENTED In"aLSTRALIA. By Gable—Press Association—Copyright. Melbourne, October 24. Addressing the Graduates' Association. Lord Denman incidentally referred to Lord Dudley's cabled statement regarding the payment of members. Though the system had been in operation several years, there had been no reflection of any kind upon the honor and integrity of Australian members of Parliament. Mr. Fisher declares that he is astonished at Lord Dudley's references. The liest answer is that Australia is politically clean.
Lord Dudlev, speaking at Worcester, «ani it was dangerous for the country if the House of Commons possessed professional politicians. There was some likelihood of this unless the electors were careful. The people of the colonies were more engaged in monevinakmg than in England, hence Au'st'fl.,ans made a greater number of professional politicians, which was hardlv gruel for the Commonwealth.
